Emma Brown (formerly Emma Brown Owl) is a freelance illustrator and artist based in Manchester. Her work explores history, tradition, collection and place through a focus on narrative and an interpretation of this in visual form.

Working predominantly as an illustrator on commission based work she is currently in state of reflection, discovery and development within her artistic practice, attempting to strike a balance between the two sides of her professional career as both artist and illustrator.
Working processes are driven by her illustrative skill set and primarily use drawing, painting and collage with a recent move towards traditional print-based methods. Emma uses animation and moving image within her practice aiding her further in depicting and retelling personal and found narrative material. Her work often includes silhouetted or faceless figures evoking a sense of anonymity enabling the viewer to engage with the figure and use it as a means of projecting their own story.

Emma has been volunteering weekly at Hot Bed Press in Salford since September 2015.
